Failure---or maybe not

button

Today, for the first time since week 4, I was not able to complete my C25K workout. On Thursday, I ran 3.1 miles.  Today, I didn't even complete 1/2 a mile.  Circumstances were different: today I was running outside, and it was very hot!  I tried to push on, but I just couldn't do it.  I was disappointed, but I didn't let it defeat me.  I continued walking until I hit 3 miles.  So, I might not have completed the goal I had set for today, but I refused to throw in the towel and give up.  I just modified.

So, today I leave you with these inspiring thoughts.

  1. Julie - You're not a failure - you did the workout anyways! You might not have run it, but you did the distance! You are a success because you have consistently kept at C25K!

  2. Nope, not a failure. From what I understand (from reading, not doing), the transition from indoor to outdoor running is tough. And now you have new milestones to collect! (I love milestones!)

  3. Hi Julie! I'm a new follower and wanted to say that I'm so glad you posted this today - I'm training for my first 5K on June 1st and I get so discouraged when I can't run as far or as fast as I did on a certain day. I'm in Week 5 of the C25K and I've just learned that even though I was running "slow" I actually wasn't running slow enough! Outside is so much harder than the treadmill and I kept trying and trying to run as fast and as far as I was able to on the treadmill. However, the other day, I tried slowing it down even more and I swear, I felt like I could have run forever!! BTW, my "fast" is 4mph, and I slowed it to 3.5mph and it made all the difference! Good luck and thanks for the inspirational quotes, I needed them! Jenn http://ahealthymakeover.blogspot.com / http://ahealthymakeoverjourney.blogspot.com/

  5. Good job, Julie! Don't forget that running outside is so much harder than running on the treadmill. It also burns LOTS more calories. I'm slow and I like it that way. Just keep trying it outside and you'll be surprised what you can do before you know it!

  7. Love these quotes. I found you from the link up. I am going to steal some of these! Love the motivation. Even though you didn't run as much as you wanted, you beat everyone sitting on the couch!

  11. I have never taken my c25K running outside, and I am so nervous for when I do that it will be so different from treadmill running that I wont be able to do it. It is awesome that you made yourself keep going though, even though you weren't running the whole time you were moving your body and pushing yourself toward a goal. Maybe try running when it isn't so hot next time :) You will get there

  13. The racer's rule is that you run for speed when it's cool and you run to place when it's hot. Heat is the very worst thing for runners.
