Feeling discouraged

When I lost 50 pounds and reached the 6 month mark of my journey, I decided to check in with my doctor. I requested new lab work, since my cholesterol had been elevated. I've also had borderline glucose numbers.

In the past 6 months, I've been eating healthfully, exercising several times a week, (I just got my 750 mile badge from FitBit--since the end of February!)

My doctor asked me if I was feeling better. I told him that I didn't feel bad before. I just knew I needed to take better care of my body.

Today I got my lab results.
My cholesterol went from 186 to 228.
And my glucose was high enough that he wants me to do a 2 hour glucose test.

What?!?!?! How is that possible? I'm eating right. I'm exercising.  I'm doing all the "right" things.  Why are my numbers go the wrong way?  I wasn't expecting perfect numbers.  I've done a lot of damage to my body carrying 100+ extra pounds for more than 20 years.  But I did expect to see them improve---not get worse.

  1. Ugh - that is frustrating! We can come so far and expect certain results, but not get them. You know how amazing you're doing and I'm sure you feel better! Focus on that and I know things will be different next time. I can't understand how the numbers all work with this weight loss stuff...

Concentrate on how good you feel Nd your non-scale victories, heck even how great that scale looks! Don't let it get you down!

  2. Oh no, that's gotta be so discouraging. :( You might want to talk to him about what's going on - bring in a food log or something. You may have a hidden culprit that is causing these things!

  3. I'm so sorry you're feeling discouraged, Julie, but I understand! Here's hoping it was some flukey blood test (I've had a couple of those) or that it's related to something you ate recently. Was it a fasting blood test?
