Determination

I guess the theme for this week is testing my resolve (see yesterday's post). I had 4 more runs in my C25K program. One this morning and then Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. All my runs have been on the treadmill.  My plan was to move outside after I finished week 8.

The center I usually go to was closed today for Easter weekend (I knew this). I made arrangements to use another treadmill today, but nobody was there when I went by.

I went to my office to see if I could find a free trial pass to a local gym. No luck. So I took a deep breath and headed to the high school track. I figured if I was going to run outside for the first time, running on a level surface might be best.

But the turnstile was locked. This is the second time I've seen people inside and not been able to get in.

So, after allowing a few minutes for tears and a little pity party, I headed to 1 mile, paved walking/running path that surrounds the soccer park.

I was very nervous about trying to do my run outside. But I started anyway.  I had to battle a lot of self doubt and replace it with positive self talk. I hit my mile marker (a port-a-potty!) in about 17 or 18 minutes--so comparable to what I do on treadmill.

I was pretty much jelly legged when the voice told me to "begin cool down", but I managed to make it back to my car.

Here is me after sitting in the car with A/c on full blast for about 10 minutes!

To add to the determination theme, my Blogger app crashed each time I tried to upload this picture.  Fortunately, I copied the text before I tried to hit "publish".  I ended up e-mailing it to myself. :)
