Breaking free of Pepsi

I'm a Pepsi girl. I don't like Coke.  I don't like 7-Up, or orange, or grape.  And don't even get me started on Diet anything.  I'm a Pepsi purist.

When I started this journey 7 weeks ago, I intended to drink only one Pepsi a week. I had one one New Year's Eve (well, I had several on New Year's Eve!)  I was fine for a couple of days, but on the 3rd, I had a terrible headache. At first I didn't associate it with the caffeine. When I did, I made the decision to amend my goal.  I knew that it would be easy to get sidetracked while fighting the caffeine withdrawals.  So I chose to have one Pepsi a day (a 12 ounce can).  But I knew that was a short term fix.  I need to get off the Pepsi.  I was drinking way too many calories. (Not as many as I had been, but still too many).

On Wednesday (February 13th) I had my last Pepsi.  I am now 4 full days past. I had a headache on Friday and Saturday, but it wasn't too unbearable.  Today I've got a bit of a dull ache.  But I'm okay.  The physical addiction has been broken.

I still have a ways to go on the emotional addiction.  But I will get there.

My initial goal is to go at least until Easter without drinking Pepsi.  I'm not Catholic, and I don't usually give up something for Lent (and I started 2 days later), but I figured it was a reasonable goal.

What has been the hardest for you to give up?

  1. Oh that is the worst! I didn't have the issue with soda but I did with the Chai tea at Starbucks. The headache lasted about a week and got duller and time went on. By tomorrow or Tuesday you should be in the clear completely. Everything in moderation is what they say. I have a Chai about once every too weeks or maybe even once a month. Kind of a treat you know?!?! :) Good job kicking that habit! It's tough!

  2. I love Pepsi! In a glass with lots of ice. Actually any soda as long as it isn't diet is my thing. I've given up soda hundreds of times, but I've always gone back to it. I know those headaches you speak of very well.

  3. yay! Pop (haha can you tell I'm from the Midwest?) is sooo addictive! I kicked the habit last year, but then 2 weeks ago, I had one...and then another one, and one last week. I went to get on from a fast food joint this week and they gave me sweet tea instead. Felt like a punishment for trying to start again! Hope it is going well for you!
