Six Month Review (Monday Motivation)

If you just want to see pictures, feel free to scroll down...... :)

On January 1st of this year, I began a journey to change my life---and to ensure a long, healthy life with my children.  After meeting with my doctor and nutritionist at the end of last year, I officially started my new life on January 1st.  I did not pick that date because of resolutions.  I picked that date because I knew it would be setting myself up for failure if I started the week of Christmas. But I didn't want to give my self too long.  So I, like thousands of Americans, began to change my life on January 1st.  However, unlike many Americans, I did not quit.  A 2007 study by Richard Wiseman from the University of Bristol showed that 88% of those who set New Year resolutions fail. I started recording everything I eat on MyFitnessPal. I didn't make any foods "off limits", I just adjusted the way I thought about foods, and I limited my intake of certain foods.  My family and I still have pizza about once a week, I still have chocolate now and then, and I only recently gave up regular Pepsi.

I started walking (50 miles in January!) and then I started running.  I completed the C25K (couch to 5K program) in April, and I will run my first 5K on Saturday.  I also started doing Zumba 2-3 times a week, and strength training 1-2 times a week. (My goal for the next couple of months is to increase my strength training and begin to incorporate more weights.)

I have taken 1,767, 801 steps since January 1st. That averages out to 9821 steps a day.  The most steps I've taken in one day is just over 25,000! I have intentionally (as in walking or running for exercise) gone 253.25 miles.  My total steps (including additional trips to the bathroom for the all the water I'm drinking!!) equals 1324.9 miles.

Today, I stepped on the scale to see how my first 6 months went.  I was down exactly 50 pounds!

I have lost almost 22 inches!
  • 6.5 inches from my hips
  • 6.75 inches from my waist
  • 8.5 inches from my chest
My husband normally takes my "during" pictures on the first Saturday of every month, but since I'll be posting race pictures, I'll probably post the "official" weigh in pictures on Friday.  But today I was too excited to wait.  So please pardon the "selfies".

My face minus 50 pounds!
